Vijayadashami falls on Tuesday 20 October 2026, the morning after the last garba. In Ahmedabad the day is fafda and jalebi, a visit to the mandir, and, for a lot of households, the one day of the year the car, the scooter, the shop's tools and the laptop all get a tilak. It is also the day people choose to sign for a house, open a shop, or start something they have been putting off. This guide covers what goes with each of those, and when to order it.

Vahan puja: the car, the bike, the delivery van

Dussehra is the biggest vehicle-delivery day of the year in Gujarat, and even old vehicles get washed and garlanded. Two things end up on the dashboard afterwards.

Shastra and ayudha puja: the workshop, the shop, the desk

Tools, machines, account books and, increasingly, laptops get their puja on Dussehra. Where a shop or workshop wants something permanent after the puja, three pieces come up again and again:

  • A Shubh Labh door hanging pair for the shutter or the office door, ₹249 each or ₹199 from 50.

Durga Puja runs from Shashthi on Friday 16 October to Dashami on Tuesday 20 October this year, with the pandals in Ahmedabad busiest on Ashtami and Navami.
